Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Physicians To Provide Medical Care at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games

St. Petersburg, FL (May 23,2022) – Two Bayfront Health Sports Medicine physicians will help athletes stay healthy during the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in the greater Orlando area.

Katherine Wojonowich, MD and Justin Thompson, MD will serve as medical site directors as well as sideline physicians. Dr. Wjonowich, director of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Medical Group Sports Medicine Center and Sports Medicine Fellowship program, will be the venue medical director for the tennis competition held at the United States Tennis Association campus. Dr. Thompson will serve as venue director for golf and bocce. Both will also serve as sideline physicians at the games being held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex during the games which take place from June 5-12, 2022.

Orlando Health, which acquired Bayfront Health St. Petersburg October 1, 2020, is the official medical team for the 2022 Speical Olympics USA Games. “We take great pride in helping these athletes achieve their goals by keeping them healthy and safe” said Dr. Wojonowich. “We could not be more thrilled to partner with this great organization to help their athletes compete and excel.”
