New Mural Installed in St. Petersburg’s Innovation District

“Healing Palms” Painting Adorns Newly Renovated Ambulance Bay

St. Petersburg, FL (March 28, 2025) – Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital celebrated the installation of a new mural on its newly expanded ambulance bay, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ambulance bay, which went from accommodating four ambulances, can now safely hold up to 13 emergency transport vehicles at a time.

As the city’s only trauma center, it was important that we grow with our community’s needs,” said Stefan Sumby, the nursing operations manager for Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital’s Emergency Room. “Now we are properly outfitted to receive a much larger number of ambulances, so we can quickly deliver quality medical care to more patients when they need it most.”

The ambulance bay also features the St. Petersburg’s Innovation District’s newest mural, “Healing Palms” by local artist Elizabeth Barenis.

“I was inspired to create this design because of my deep appreciation for nature and the men and women whose hands constantly work to heal our community inside Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital,” she said.

Hospital team members, Barenis, construction workers and community partners joined emergency room and hospital leaders to commemorate the renovation and installation of “Healing Palms” Thursday morning.
