Andres Santayana, MD, joined the full-time faculty in 2020. Dr. Santayana completed his bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Florida in Gainesville before returning to his hometown of Tampa to complete a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of South Florida. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of South Florida, where he was recognized with the Humanism in Medicine Award.
During medical school, he was a student director for the BRIDGE free clinic at the medical school, as well as president of the Project World Health medical missions organization. After medical school, he remained in the Tampa Bay area and completed his family medicine residency at Bayfront Health where he served as chief resident and completed areas of concentration in outpatient medicine and global health. He continued to attend medical mission trips with the Project World Health organization at USF throughout his residency.
Dr. Santayana is a Tampa Bay native and a fluent Spanish speaker who enjoys teaching residents and medical students. His interests include outpatient medicine, wilderness/travel medicine, procedures and global health and practicing the full scope of family medicine. Dr. Santayana is married and has one child. Outside of work, he enjoys the beach and boating, taking his two dogs for hikes, traveling and spending time with family.
