Carley Befeler, MD, joined the full-time faculty in 2016. Originally from San Diego, she completed her bachelor's degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. After a brief career in healthcare administration, she left California and moved to Washington, DC where she earned her master's degree in physiology and biophysics at Georgetown University. She went on to earn her medical degree at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, where she was recognized with the Frederick S. Hesser Prize in Family Practice and Primary Care.
Dr. Befeler completed her residency in family medicine from the University of Tennessee at Memphis before joining the faculty at the University of Tennessee where she worked as assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine. While there, she served as the Medical Student Clerkship Director and chair of the Clinical Competency Committee.
After joining the Bayfront faculty, she became a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She appreciates the opportunity to work with residents while practicing full spectrum family medicine, including obstetrical care. Her clinical interests include women's healthcare and preventative medicine. She enjoys partnering with patients, educating them about their health and empowering them to take an active role in health management and disease prevention.
Outside of work, Dr. Befeler enjoys exploring the Tampa area with her husband, children, and dogs. Her other hobbies include travel, running, biking and scuba diving.
