Director's Message

Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital has been at the forefront of health care in St. Petersburg, Florida since its opening in 1910. We are proud of our tradition of excellence and commitment to serving the residents of Tampa Bay.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is a four-year, ACGME accredited residency with four resident physicians per year. Our residents complete their core rotations primarily at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, which is a private, not-for-profit facility and Level II Trauma Center, and the Florida Medical Clinic Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. Also located on our campus is the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital where our Center for Women and Babies is located -one of only 13 approved Level III Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Centers (RPICC). Our partnership with the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Level IV NICU presents our residents with a myriad of complex obstetric and perinatal cases during their training. In addition to these inpatient experiences, our program also collaborates with the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) practice in the outpatient setting. Our MFM partners see high-risk obstetric patients in the Florida Medical Clinic with the resident physicians, integrating their clinical expertise into the training of our resident physicians.

Our program offers training in all the OBGYN subspecialties, including Gynecology/ Minimally Invasive Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and Urogynecology, Complex Family Planning and Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology.

Our mission is to train resident physicians to be knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring physicians who are prepared to practice full scope obstetrics and gynecology upon graduation. We support residents’ pursuit of scholarly work through our innovative research curriculum which recognizes various areas of scholarly contribution to include clinical research, simulation, medical education/ curriculum development, public health, and quality improvement.

Through training attained in our program, resident physicians will acquire the core fund of knowledge of obstetrics and gynecology necessary to provide evidence-based care to patients in a multitude of settings, including underserved communities. Our residents graduate prepared to pursue a variety of different professional roles to include fellowship training, private practice, academia/ GME and hospitalist positions. Many of our graduates have joined our faculty following completion of their training, which reflects the strong emphasis on community and team building within our program.
