David Desper, MD, FACOG

Associate Program Director

Dr. Desper was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his undergraduate degree and medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Barnes Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis in 1981.

Dr. Desper opened his practice in St. Petersburg in 1981 and has been teaching residents at Bayfront for over 30 years. After spending 23 years in private practice, Dr. Desper became a full-time faculty member in the Family Medicine Residency Program at Morton Plant Hospital. During his tenure at Morton Plant, Dr. Desper continued to work weekends as Inhouse Attending of the OB-GYN Residency Program at Bayfront.

In April 2012, Dr. Desper returned to Bayfront as a full-time faculty member. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a NAMS Certified Menopausal Practitioner (NCMP). His interests include obstetrics, office gynecology, benign gyn surgery, colposcopy, vulvar disease and menopausal medicine. Dr. Desper supervises the resident’s Journal Club, which he initiated when he started teaching residents in 1981 as a community attending. He is a fellow in ACOG in addition to membership in the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP). Dr. Desper has been recognized 12 times in his career for his teaching accomplishments.
