Bio
J. Ryan Williams, MD, is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon with Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Medical Group Colorectal Surgery. His expertise is in the specialized care of colon and rectal conditions with a focus on cancers of the colon, rectum, anus, and pelvic region. Additional areas of excellence include inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders. He is certified as a console surgeon on da Vinci® Robotic Surgical Systems.
Treatment of Colon and Rectal Conditions
He has been certified as a console surgeon on da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System and performs complex laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery including transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for some colon and rectal polyps. Dr. Williams’s Training
After earning his medical degree from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine in Kentucky, Dr. Williams completed his postdoctoral training at the University of South Florida (USF) as a general surgery resident and colon and rectal surgery fellow. While at USF, he also spent time as a research fellow focusing on simulation and surgical education. He maintains his research endeavors, currently focusing on colorectal cancer, the human gut microbiome, and pelvic floor disorders.
About Dr. Williams
In addition to certification by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Williams is an active member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and American College of Surgeons, where he serves on multiple committees nationally.
Recently, he was listed in Tampa Magazine as one of the area's Top Doctors for Colon and Rectal Surgery.
