In addition to serving as director of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg’s Family Medicine Residency Program, Lorna Fountain, MD is director of curriculum for the program. Her passion for teaching residents and students led her to join the faculty in 2007 and become program director in 2016. Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Fountain is a practicing physician with particular interest in women’s health, obstetrics, breastfeeding, critical care, sports medicine, wilderness medicine and pediatrics.
She received her B.S. in biology from Eckerd College (St. Petersburg) and earned her medical degree at the University of South Florida (Tampa). Dr. Fountain completed a residency at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where she served as chief resident and completed areas of concentration in ambulatory pediatrics, inpatient medicine, outpatient medicine, outpatient procedures, sports medicine and women’s health. She performed a faculty development fellowship through Michigan State University (East Lansing), where she focused on curriculum development, and has completed the National Institute for Program Director Development fellowship.
At Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, Dr. Fountain also serves as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, Physician Advisory Council, Medical Council and Clinically Integrated Network Board of Trustees. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and is focusing on the requirements to become a fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. Dr. Fountain holds appointments as affiliate assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Florida and as clinical assistant professor with Family Medicine at Florida State University College of Medicine. She is a National Advisory faculty member for ALSO and speaker for the AAFP.
