Bio
Dr. Mark Gimbel is a double-board-certified oncology surgeon with Orlando Health Cancer Institute. With more than 15 years of experience in cancer surgery, his expertise includes:
- Melanoma and Merkel cell carcinoma
- Soft tissue oncology
- Gastric cancer
- Neuroendocrine carcinoma
- Small bowel cancer
- Splenectomy
- Lymph node surgery
- Robotic surgery
Dr. Gimbel strives to partner with his patients and their families to provide comprehensive and compassionate care. He understands that a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming and reviews all options – both surgical and nonsurgical – to make sure his patients are getting the best possible treatment plans. He believes there is no greater joy than when he can celebrate with patients at the end of such long journeys.
Dr. Gimbel’s Training
Dr. Gimbel earned a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received his medical degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He completed general surgery residencies at the University of Florida in Jacksonville and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Gimbel completed a surgical oncology fellowship at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and a surgical research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
About Dr. Gimbel
Dr. Gimbel is a board certified in general surgery and surgical oncology by the American Board of Surgery. His professional memberships include the Society of Surgical Oncology, Connective Tissue Oncology Society, Society for Melanoma Research and Trans-Atlantic Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group.
Dr. Gimbel has been a principal investigator in multiple clinical trials, and he has
published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals.
He has been named a top doctor in surgical oncology by Phoenix magazine, Phoenix Business Journal, USA Top Docs, Consumer’s Research Council of America, National Consumer Advisory Board and the International Association of Oncologists.
Outside of work, Dr. Gimbel enjoys running and pickleball.

Why do some Orlando Health physicians not have a patient experience rating?
The Patient Satisfaction Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions, shown above, from our nationally-recognized Press-Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question.
Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
The comments are submitted by patients and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do not necessarily reflect the views of Orlando Health.
Ratings may not be present for certain physicians of Orlando Health Physician Group and Orlando Health Physician Associates because:
- The physician has not yet met the minimum number of 30 patient satisfaction surveys to be eligible for display.
- They may be a researcher or type of provider that does not see patients.
- They may practice in a specialty or office that has not yet implemented the specified surveys used for these ratings.
