When the unexpected happens, it’s important to know where to go for the emergency care you need. Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital is equipped to handle any emergency situation, big or small, and at any time of the day or night. Our ER utilizes a Fast Track system for minor emergencies, offering personalized emergency care in less time.
Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital is nationally accredited as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and is the only state-accredited Level II Adult Trauma Center in Pinellas County. Each year, our ER cares for approximately 50,000 patients, including more than 2,500 critically ill or injured trauma patients.
Our state-of-the-art technology and expert emergency team have distinguished Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital as a regional leader in adult and pediatric emergency care.
Our ER Team and Technology
Our ER is led by board-certified emergency physicians working together with a highly skilled team of emergency room nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. In addition, a team of physicians in a broad range of specialty areas is always on call. And local emergency medical services work closely with our ER to ensure the best emergency care for our community.
We offer a wide spectrum of emergency services, including extensive diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, cardiac catheterization labs and operating rooms.
Supporting our trauma care program, the Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital’s aeromedical transport program, Bayflite, serves residents throughout West Central Florida with emergency helicopter transport to our Level II Adult Trauma Center. Annually, Bayflite provides transport of more than 2,600 patients to the nearest available trauma center in West Central Florida as well as hospital-to-hospital transport of critically injured infants, children and adults. Bayflite was the first flight program in Florida to carry lifesaving blood on every flight.
Our dedicated care team is ready to help facilitate physician-to-physician referrals for patients that require emergency evaluation and/or admission into our hospital. With the many unique specialties that are offered at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, our Emergency Transfer Center is a central point of contact, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for outside hospitals to call and expedite the patient’s arrival for the best care possible.
How Our Emergency Transfer Center Works
Our transfer team connects the referring physician to the specialist needed on a recorded line. We will then work with bed placement to get the patient admitted to the hospital, reducing the amount of work required by the referring facility. This ensures a seamless transfer of care between your care team to ours. If you are a patient or a family member and want to arrange transfer, please have your physician contact the Emergency Transfer Center. Calls must be from physician to physician in order to be initiated.
Bayflite
Our Emergency Transfer Center works directly with the Bayflite Team, enabling simultaneous dispatch of a helicopter for critically ill patients while admission arrangements are finalized.
Specialty areas accepting transfers include:
- Only state-accredited Level II Adult Trauma Center in Pinellas County
- Accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Accredited Chest Pain Center
- Neurological care, including our recognized Epilepsy Center
- Specialized care for women and children
Non-Emergency Patient Transfers
We have nurse case managers available during regular business hours for non-emergency transfer requests to our facility. Our case managers screen for necessity of transfer, arrange for a receiving physician and make sure a bed is available. They also make sure the patient will not be negatively impacted financially by their health insurance provider for going to a non-preferred facility. All calls are recorded.
