Indian Spiced Nuts

Are you looking to consume more omega-3 fatty acids to boost your heart health? These energy-packed spiced nuts from Joyce Accetturo, RD, LDN, have omega-3s, which are a great way to lower inflammation and protect against heart disease and strokes.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 tsp. ground cumin

  • 1 1/2 tsp. dark brown sugar

  • 1 1/2 tsp. honey

  • 1 tsp. olive oil

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp. kosher salt

  • 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom

  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper

  • 1/4 cup whole almonds

  • 1/4 cup whole cashews

  • 2 ounces hazelnuts

  • 2 ounces walnuts (optional for extra omega-3 fatty acids)

Preparation:

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Combine cumin, brown sugar, honey, olive oil, cinnamon, salt, cardamom and pepper in a small saucepan. Heat gently and stir to combine.

  • Add nuts to spice mixture and toss to coat.

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread nuts evenly on baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Let cool. The spices and sugar create a brittle around the nuts; break apart into ¼-cup servings or serve in a bowl.
